Atlapetes melanocephalus
A range-restricted endemic recognized by its contrasting head pattern and active foraging style near dense vegetation. Compared with some other Santa Marta endemics, it can be more approachable in suitable mid-to-high elevation habitat.
Signature behavior: Most consistently found by combining early movement, vocal cues, and habitat-focused searching.
